Primary Purpose

The Blaster Helper reports to the Lead Blaster and is responsible for assisting the blast crew.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to Conuma Coal’s workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control;
• Maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring and revision of standard work procedures.
• Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace; and
• Attend and participate in all scheduled health and safety meetings and training.
• Ensure adherence to Conuma Coal’s environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• Lift / carry boxes of explosives (up to 55lbs). Ability to lift up to shoulder height.
• Experience in a mining environment would be an asset.
• Completion of Grade 12.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Technical Competencies and Skills

• Safely perform all tasks appointed by the lead blaster.
• Handling explosives under the supervision of the lead blaster.
• Fill out all company required daily paperwork.
• Be able to work in all the elements (all seasons).

Work Environment / Conditions

The candidate will be required to perform their job in a variety of settings. He/she must have the ability to travel by foot or vehicle. Some requirements for this position include: Lifting, climbing stairs, working around explosives, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Employee bus transportation is provided from Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd, BC.
